Online CO₂ monitor
The online CO₂ monitor provides continuous measurement of critical gas‑quality and process parameters across the entire CO₂ recovery plant. For the production of food‑grade liquid CO₂, online monitoring delivers an additional layer of quality control by enabling operators to observe real‑time CO₂ concentration, humidity and certain trace‑level impurities. Depending on the raw material and product specifications, the analyser configuration can be adjusted to monitor relevant components such as oxygen, hydrocarbons, alcohols or other contaminants. Integrated into the distributed control system (DCS), the monitoring system supplies real‑time readings, alarms and historical trends, making it possible to identify process deviations before they compromise final‑product quality. The online monitoring system works in tandem with YTC’s purification, drying and liquefaction processes to ensure stable production of liquid CO₂ with purity up to 99.998 %.

Continuous Visibility into CO₂ Quality

Food-grade CO₂ production requires more than a high CO₂ concentration.

Trace contaminants and moisture can also affect the suitability of the final product.

Laboratory testing remains important for quality assurance, but continuous online monitoring provides operators with immediate information about process conditions.

The CO₂ Online Monitor therefore acts as an important quality-control layer within the complete recovery plant.

CO₂ Concentration

CO₂ concentration is a fundamental process parameter.

Monitoring the concentration at selected points allows operators to understand the performance of the recovery and purification system.

Changes may indicate variations in the feed gas or upstream process.

Continuous measurement provides earlier visibility than periodic sampling alone.

Moisture Monitoring

Moisture is especially important before liquefaction.

The online monitor can verify the performance of the adsorption and drying system.

If moisture begins to increase, operators can investigate dryer performance before the gas enters the low-temperature section.

Trace Impurities

The exact analyzer configuration depends on the raw gas.

Potential monitoring targets may include:

  • Oxygen
  • Hydrocarbons
  • Alcohols
  • Sulfur-related compounds
  • Other specified trace impurities

The selected analyzers should be determined from actual feed-gas analysis and customer product requirements.

Fermentation Applications

For ethanol and molasses fermentation, continuous monitoring can provide information about changes in moisture and volatile organic components.

Fermentation conditions can change during operation.

Online data therefore helps operators identify process variations and maintain stable purification performance.

Flue Gas Applications

Flue gas has a different impurity profile.

Depending on the upstream combustion and purification process, relevant parameters may include oxygen and selected combustion-related contaminants.

The monitoring system can be configured accordingly.

Natural Gas and Process Gas

For natural-gas and process-gas-derived CO₂, hydrocarbons may be important quality parameters.

Online monitoring can provide information about purification performance and help identify changes in feed-gas composition.

Integration with DCS

The analyzer system can communicate with the plant DCS.

Operators can see current readings on the central HMI.

Alarm limits can be established for critical parameters.

Historical trends can also be recorded.

This allows quality information to become part of the overall process-control system.

Preventive Quality Management

The most valuable function of online monitoring is early detection.

If moisture rises, the dryer can be checked.

If an impurity increases, the purification system can be investigated.

If CO₂ concentration changes, the feed-gas system can be examined.

This preventive approach reduces the possibility of producing off-specification liquid CO₂.

Supporting 99.998% CO₂ Purity

YTC currently presents up to 99.998% CO₂ purity as a key performance figure on its English website, with O₂ ≤ 0.1 ppm stated in the company introduction.

The online analyzer provides an important tool for maintaining process consistency around this target.

Data and Traceability

Historical analyzer data can support:

  • Quality analysis
  • Process optimization
  • Maintenance planning
  • Troubleshooting
  • Production records

The result is a more transparent and controllable CO₂ production process.
