Engineered for Efficient Liquid CO₂ Storage

Storing CO₂ in liquid form provides significantly greater product capacity within a compact footprint compared with conventional compressed-gas storage.

However, liquid CO₂ must be maintained under controlled pressure and low-temperature conditions. An effective cryogenic cylinder therefore requires not only a pressure-resistant inner vessel, but also a high-performance insulation system capable of minimizing heat transfer from the surrounding environment.

The YTC Liquid CO₂ Cryogenic Cylinder combines a welded inner pressure vessel, vacuum-insulated outer vessel, multi-layer thermal insulation, piping, valves, instrumentation, and protective structure into an integrated liquid CO₂ storage and supply system.

Double-Wall Cryogenic Construction

Inner Pressure Vessel

The inner vessel contains the liquid CO₂ and is designed to withstand the specified operating pressure and low-temperature service conditions. The vessel design, materials, welding, inspection, and testing are selected according to the applicable product code and project requirements.

Vacuum-Insulated Annular Space

The space between the inner and outer vessels forms the thermal insulation zone. By maintaining a high vacuum and incorporating multiple layers of reflective insulation material, heat transfer through conduction and radiation can be significantly reduced.

Outer Vessel

The outer vessel protects the vacuum insulation system and internal pressure vessel while providing the structural integrity required for normal handling and operation. Together, these components create a compact cryogenic vessel designed for reliable liquid CO₂ storage.

High-Vacuum Multi-Layer Insulation

Thermal insulation is one of the most important performance factors in any cryogenic liquid cylinder. When heat enters a liquid CO₂ cylinder, part of the stored liquid absorbs this energy and vaporizes, resulting in pressure rise inside the vessel.

YTC uses high-vacuum multi-layer insulation to minimize external heat ingress and maintain stable storage conditions.

  • Low heat ingress
  • Reduced evaporation losses
  • Controlled pressure rise
  • Improved liquid CO₂ holding performance
  • Stable cryogenic storage conditions

Actual thermal performance depends on cylinder capacity, filling level, working pressure, ambient conditions, and the specific product configuration.

Liquid and Gas Supply Configurations

Depending on the application and cylinder configuration, liquid CO₂ can be withdrawn directly from the cylinder or converted into gaseous CO₂ for downstream use.

The cylinder can be configured with appropriate valves and piping for:

  • Liquid filling
  • Liquid withdrawal
  • Gas withdrawal
  • Pressure regulation
  • Pressure indication
  • Liquid-level indication
  • Venting
  • Pressure relief

Where required, pressure-building or vaporization arrangements can be incorporated according to the customer's CO₂ supply conditions. This flexibility allows the cylinder to serve as both a liquid CO₂ storage vessel and a compact CO₂ supply source.

Vertical and Horizontal Configurations

Vertical Cryogenic Cylinders

Vertical cylinders provide a compact footprint and are suitable for applications where floor space is limited and frequent access to the operating valves is required.

Horizontal Cryogenic Cylinders

Horizontal configurations can be integrated into dedicated support frames or equipment packages where installation height, handling requirements, or system layout make horizontal installation preferable.

The appropriate configuration is selected according to capacity, operating conditions, installation space, and customer requirements.

Multiple Capacities and Pressure Ratings

Different CO₂ applications require different storage volumes and supply pressures. YTC offers liquid CO₂ cryogenic cylinders with nominal capacities ranging from approximately 175 L to 495 L, covering both compact and higher-capacity applications.

Available working pressures range from approximately 1.37 MPa to 2.88 MPa, depending on the selected model and configuration. This broad product range allows the cylinder to be matched to the actual requirements of the downstream CO₂ application rather than relying on a single standard configuration.

Safety and Pressure Protection

Liquid CO₂ is stored under pressure, making reliable pressure management and protection essential. Depending on the selected model and project requirements, the cylinder can incorporate appropriate safety and monitoring components such as:

  • Pressure relief devices
  • Pressure gauge
  • Liquid-level indication
  • Isolation valves
  • Filling and withdrawal valves
  • Vent connections
  • Protective valve structure

The cylinder is designed, manufactured, inspected, and tested according to the applicable product code and specified project requirements. Operators should always follow the applicable safety procedures for filling, handling, transportation, storage, and withdrawal of liquid CO₂.

Flexible CO₂ Storage and Supply

Liquid CO₂ cryogenic cylinders provide an effective solution between conventional compressed-gas cylinders and large stationary storage tanks.

  • Higher CO₂ Storage Capacity — More CO₂ can be stored in liquid form within a relatively compact vessel.
  • Flexible Installation — Vertical and horizontal configurations allow adaptation to different site layouts.
  • Portable CO₂ Supply — The cylinder can be moved and connected to different points of use according to operational requirements.
  • Reduced Cylinder Handling — Higher stored CO₂ capacity can reduce the frequency of cylinder replacement compared with conventional compressed-gas cylinders.
  • Liquid or Gas Withdrawal — Different supply arrangements can be configured according to downstream requirements.

Applications

  • Beverage carbonation
  • Food processing
  • Dry ice production
  • Welding and industrial gas supply
  • Laboratory and research applications
  • Water treatment
  • Greenhouse CO₂ supply
  • Industrial cooling and process applications
  • Small-scale liquid CO₂ distribution
  • CO₂ recovery and utilization systems

The appropriate cylinder capacity, pressure rating, and supply configuration are selected according to the actual application.

Integration with CO₂ Recovery and Distribution Systems

For customers operating a CO₂ recovery plant, cryogenic cylinders can form part of the downstream liquid CO₂ storage and distribution system.

Typical supply chain: CO₂ Recovery & Purification → CO₂ Liquefaction → Bulk Liquid CO₂ Storage → Liquid CO₂ Filling → Cryogenic Cylinder → Point-of-Use CO₂ Supply

This allows recovered liquid CO₂ to be packaged and distributed to smaller users or individual points of consumption.

YTC Liquid CO₂ Storage & Supply Solution

YTC provides integrated solutions covering CO₂ recovery, purification, liquefaction, storage, filling, transportation, and downstream supply.

Liquid CO₂ cryogenic cylinders can be supplied as individual equipment or incorporated into a complete CO₂ production and distribution system according to the customer's requirements.

By combining different cylinder capacities, working pressures, vertical or horizontal configurations, and supply arrangements, YTC provides a flexible liquid CO₂ solution tailored to the customer's storage capacity, operating pressure, installation conditions, and point-of-use requirements.
